Who We Are
A little family history
Jim’s Well Drilling is a family owned company located in Grayling, Michigan. The well drilling business has been a part of the Carlson family for over 50 years. The business was started in 1966 by Grandpa Jim Stearns when he decided the water well industry is what he wanted to pursue in Northern Michigan.
With hard work and dedication, Jim built his first rig in 1965 from the ground up and started drilling in 1966. As Jim’s continued to experience growth, he remained persistent to hand build more equipment. Jim's Well Drilling had 3 rigs that were servicing the Grayling area. Jim ran the business until his daughter and son-in-law; Hal & Dorthea Carlson purchased the company in 1974. Glen Carlson; Hal and Dorthea's son, joined the family business alongside his father in 1993. Glen purchased the business from his father making him a third generation owner in 2019. Over time, Jim’s has been adding new equipment periodically. There are now more than 12 rigs and service trucks and other equipment that are in operation. Including directional drilling to run water lines under buildings, driveways & other obstacles.
Although their have been many changes throughout the years, one thing has remained the same. Jim’s Well Drilling believes in providing dependable water supply to their customers through prompt & courteous service. The area we work in has been blessed with a plentiful aquifer that contains good quality water. We all need to use and protect this most precious natural resource. We at Jim’s are thankful to be involved in supplying the well water needs of people in Crawford county and surrounding areas. This shows the passion and level of commitment that has made Jim’s Well Drilling into what it is today.
